Semillon, Tyrrell's 'Hunter Valley'
Edward Tyrrell harvested his first vintage of Hunter Valley Semillon back in 1864. His son Dan followed in his footsteps and proceeded to oversee 69 vintages at the family winery. Today the 5th generation of Tyrrells farm the family land and craft wines much like their ancestors.
2023 was a classic Semillon vintage in the Hunter Valley, producing full flavored Semillons with the power and intensity only seen in truly great vintages. This current vintage is an open and delicate drop that ripples with honey-flecked fruit, beeswax and dried herbs. The juicy fruit and acidity prickle amid a talc-like texture that flows through to a long, refreshing finish.
After gentle pressing, fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks. The wine then spent a short amount of time on yeast lees to gain extra complexity and mouth feel.
Riffs on lemon grass, lime drop, pistachio husk, spa salts and nettle. Light-weighted and effusive of freshness. The nose is vibrant with an abundance of citrus fruits and talcy, mineral notes. The palate is medium bodied, yet intense, bursting with citrus flavours and a brisk acidity.
