Pinot Noir, Franck Peillot

100% Pinot Noir. Peillot has a mere hectare of Pinot Noir. It is an old Champagne clone called Pinot Droit, suited for Bugey's challenging red-ripening environment. Franck Peillot's uncle planted the vines a few decades ago, downslope from the high home of village of Montagnieu on a flatter site along the Rhône on sandy alluvial and dense red clay. The farming is sustainable, and the harvest is by hand. The fruit is destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel; the maceration is about 10 days with punchdowns and pumpovers. Aging takes place in tank as well [there is no wood at Peillot].
