Malbec, Château de Cedre 'Extra Libre'
Chateau du Cedre is one of the leading lights of the Cahors region of Southwest France. Founded in the early 20th century by Leon Verhaeghe, the farm originally grew mixed crops. It wasn't until 1958 when Leon's son Charles took over that the wine business was established. Today the estate is run by Charles's sons, Pascal and Jean-Marc. There are 27 hectares in total and the estate has been certified organic since 2012. 'Extra Libre' is a blend of 97% Malbec and 3% Merlot and is unoaked. No added sulphites are employed in the making of this wine. Big and bold with juicy black fruit flavours, this is the perfect accompaniment to lamb.
A dark crimson in colour. Scents of sloes, blackberries and earthy spices. On the palate, smooth and rich with well balanced tannins and a juicy acidity leading to a lingering finish. Try with duck confit, lentil and foie gras salad or cepes a la Perigourdine with garlic and parsley.
