Gamay, Dom. Philippe Germain
Subtle and delicate Coteaux Bourguignons created by Philippe Germain from a plot of Gamay planted in 1978 in the commune of Nantoux, in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune, reveals aromas of ripe black fruits, such as plums and blackberries, herbaceous notes, such as thyme and rosemary, hints of spices, such as white pepper, as well as vanilla and smoked notes. The flavor is light with fine tannins and good acidity. Its finish is fresh, with black fruits, herbaceous notes, spices such as white pepper, and smoky touches. A fine example of the capacity that this variety also has in Burgundy.
Tucked away in the folds of the Côte de Beaune, the Domaine Philippe Germain lives happily hidden away. Systematically refusing the limelight, going so far as to say no to the finest restaurateurs who would like to offer its wines on the menu, this model - and somewhat rebellious - estate is a perfect success story.
