Amaro is an Italian herbal liqueur that translates to ‘bitter’ in Italian. It's made by infusing a base alcohol, such as grape brandy, neutral spirits, or wine, with a blend of herbs, roots, flowers, and spices. Amaro can have varying degrees of bitterness and may taste sweet and is typically consumed as an after-dinner digestif, or as an apertif spritz like Sbagliato.
Margerum’s Amaro is a house recipe fortified wine [grape neutral spirits] with herbs [sage, thyme, marjoram, parsley, lemon verbena, rosemary, and mint], barks, roots, dried orange peels, and caramelized simple syrup. Aged in cask outdoors.
